School can be different

Rochester Independent College is a fresh alternative to conventional secondary education with a happily distinctive ethos. Accepting day students from the age of 11 and boarders from 16 the focus is on examination success in a lively, supportive and informal atmosphere. Students enjoy being here and are treated as young adults. We encourage them to search for their own answers, to voice their opinions, to think critically, creatively and independently. They leave not only with excellent examination results but with enthusiasm for the future and new confidence about themselves and their education.

The College also offers the opportunity for a fresh start by retaking both A levels and GCSEs. Students are welcome to join us after a disappointing Year 10 or 12, thereby avoiding the need to retake altogether and maximising their potential.  Our teachers provide a  stimulating environment in which students can build or regain lost confidence and explore their subjects in a more adult manner, bringing their own ideas and experiences with them.

We have a flexible approach to enrolment, are completely non selective and yet our results regularly outperform both local grammar and traditional independent schools.

Class sizes are small, usually numbering around 6 to 8 which means individual attention is not only available, it’s inescapable. Problems are quickly diagnosed and tackled. Improvement is rapid. No bells ring, there’s no uniform and students and teachers are on first name terms.
