ISI inspection report for Kingswood School

Embracing all round excellence

KINGSWOOD SCHOOL believes that each individual child has a variety of talents and abilities needing development to the full and that is why education at Kingswood goes far beyond a ‘classroom’ experience.  The School has a dedicated and caring staff committed to encouraging their pupils to reach this goal in every way, in an atmosphere of enthusiasm, enjoyment, security and respect for others.  These special realationships have been commended at ISI Inspection.

Kingswood is a fully co-educational school for pupils aged 3-18 and aims to provide continuity of education from nursery through to Sixth Form based on strong Christian principles.  Its strengths include the level of pastoral care provided for both day and boarding pupils and the wide range of extra-curricular activities that go towards the development of a broader outlook for each individual child.

It offers excellent facilities for both boarders and day pupils in one of the most beautiful school sites in the south west of England – standing in 218 acres of parkland at Lansdown on the north side of the world-heritage city of Bath and is within easy reach of major road, rail and air links to London.

Kingswood Preparatory School offers day places to girls and boys from nursery at age 3 through to Year 6 (age 11) with free early and late care provision which is extremely helpful for busy parents.  It also offers boarding from age 7 upwards within a special junior ‘home from home’ boarding House with a busy programme of events for the children to enjoy.  Boarding is totally flexible at both junior and senior level with weekly or overnight facilities at short notice.
The Senior School provides day and boarding places from 11-18 in a campus setting with seven houses, including a junior house for Years 7 & 8 so that the children experience the perfect introduction to senior school life.

The teaching complex has seen major re-development in recent years and provides the best possible environment for academic study. Other facilities include a separate and dedicated sixth-form centre with Higher Education and Careers department; a sports hall complex complete with ultra modern new changing facilities; an indoor swimming pool and two floodlit Astroturf pitches, as well as extensive playing fields for all major sports.  Drama and Music also feature strongly with an impressive state of the art theatre and a Music School with its own recording studio and IT facilities.  The most recent edition is the Heap Library with wireless internet and multi-media resources to support the individual learning programmes which support and encourage independent learning.

The curriculum at Kingswood is a lively, dynamic affair and high academic standards are realised.  The School is however a place where education is considered “the whole experience, not just the classroom”. To this end, pupils are offered a wide variety of recreational activities, clubs and societies to encourage this kind of learning and the fun and fulfilment that come with it.

Personal visits can be arranged at any time by contacting the Registrar’s office and there are two Open Morning events each year.  A warm welcome awaits you.
