A survey of eight to 15 year olds for National Family Week has found a significant 40 per cent of girls have stated social networking software Facebook to be one of the most important things in their lives

Facebook’s own policy states that members should not be able to register until they are 13 years old.
Commissioned by National Family week, the survey highlighted the importance many girls are placing on interacting online.
Focussing on the perceptions of children and parents of family life, 3,000 parents and 1,000 children were surveyed across the United Kingdom.
Facebook was seen to be more influential than television or magazines, coming in the top three most important things in their life together with friends and family.
