A council in North London has offered 52 primary schools within the area the option of having halal-only meat served on its menus

Halal meat, which is slaughtered in agreement with Sharia Law, is currently being served in nine Harrow secondary schools, from which the Harrow council has received “no complaints” about the scheme.
According to a council spokeswoman, two primary schools have already decided to go with the Harrison Catering Services contract to provide halal-only meat.
Harrow councillor Brian Gate has said that the decision about whether to use an individual provider is for schools to make, as the funding is delegated to them.
Masood Khawaja, as president of the Halal Food Authority (HFA) has stressed that students should not be forced to eat halal meat, and that any halal meat available to students should be properly labelled.
