A survey released by the Family Commission has confirmed that the majority of parents feel that public services should be more family friendly; with eight out of ten adults arguing that politicians are out of touch with a reality

The report states that a large proportion of parents claimed public services are still not accessible until families hit crisis point. It argues that public services need a better understanding of families:
“So, the answer is not to roll back the state leaving families to sink or swim by themselves.”
The research suggests job centres and councils were the least welcoming.
An overwhelming 17 per cent claimed that no public services at all were family friendly.
Nearly 50 per cent of the adults surveyed wanted more after school activities for children, as well as more support available to give help and advice when needed.
Children’s Secretary Ed Balls has stated that the Government has set out plans to help more families and make services family friendly:
“It is all the more important that public services are flexible and welcoming.”
