New graduates’ ‘fears for careers’

A survey of 16,000 students at 30 universities across the United Kingdom admitted that they were not hopeful in finding a career

The survey found that just 36 per cent of graduates expected to start or look for a career this July.

26 per cent of students surveyed planned further study, avoiding the working world for at least another year; whilst 16 per cent wanted to travel.

Managing Director of High Fliers Research, Martin Birchall, emphasised that recent graduates were just as pessimistic about finding a career as last year’s graduates, despite the recession being officially over.

Over 1200 pupils polled intended to take up temporary or voluntary work, in the hope of building up their CV and experience.
