The new coalition government has said new administration would allow new religious organisations to run new faith schools, funded at the tax payer’s expense

According to the ‘free schools policy’, any parents’ group or organisation will be able to run their own ‘free school’ to meet local demand. With faith schools making up a third of independent schools, it is presumed that more religious groups will take schools into their own hands.
New legislation would almost certainly see an increase in Jewish, Muslim, Hindu and Sikh schools with the vast majority of the current 7,000 faith schools in England being Anglican and Roman Catholic.
Prime Minister, David Cameron, who said he was a strong supporter of faith schools, sends his daughter to a C of E primary school in London:
“I think that faith schools are a really important part of our education system and they often have a culture and ethos which helps to drive up standards. If anything, I would like to see faith schools grow.”
