Trade unions are angered as head teacher to 400 pupils receives bonus of £200,000

Head teacher, Mark Elms, Lewishams Tidemill Primary School received a bonus of £200,000 that included his basic salary, bonuses and backdated payments greatly angering Britain’s General Union.
Ted Purcell of the GMB (Britain’s General Union) argued that it is outrageous that a head teacher in a local community school should earn more money than the prime minister
As many as eleven head teachers in London could also earning more than £150,000 a year.
The National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT) General Secretary, Chris Keates, has argued concerns had been high for years about the lack of regulation of head teacher’s pay.
Parents at Tidemill primary school however have claimed that Mr Elms “deserves it”, with Ofsted’s most recent report describing school leadership as absolutely outstanding.
With plans already in place for teachers pay to increase this year by 2.3%, Education secretary Michael Gove has concluded that he wants head teachers pay to be capped at the Prime Minister’s salary of £142,500.
