Half of the A-levels taken by pupils at private schools were graded at A or A*, according to figures from the sector.

Across private schools and state schools, 8 per cent of A-levels were awarded A*, with 27 per cent overall having been awarded either A or A*.
The Independent Schools Council has claimed that 6 per cent of its candidates (2,108 pupils) were awarded three or more A* grades, with almost one in five being awarded at least one A*.
The Independent Schools Council represents about 1,260 private schools across the UK.
For the third year in a row Wycombe Abbey, a girls boarding school in Buckinghamshire, has been at the top of the ISC league tables with 50% of the school exam entries being awarded the new A* grade.
