Gove promises future school cash

Despite the abolition of the Building Schools for the Future scheme, Education Secretary Michael Gove promises that investment in school buildings in England will continue

Gove has said that the “rhetorical hype” created by the previous government over the abolition of the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) scheme has led the public to think that there will be no future spending.

Gove claims however, that scheme was only a third of capital investment overall in schools:

“By ending this bureaucratic scheme we make it easier to allocate capital schools in the future.”

The spending commitments made by the previous administration were said not to be sustainable, and with new plans the coalition government will ensure that there is more money, “particularly for primary schools and for schools in dilapidation than might otherwise have been the case.”
