Good nursery schooling boosts future earnings by £10k

The study was conducted on 12,000 children from a previous experiment in the 1980’s in Tennessee, to examine the long term effect of a standout kindergarten teacher on these children.

The researchers found that those who had better early year’s education were likely to further their education onto university, have a significantly higher salary earning an additional £628 a year by the age of 27, and were also found to have better general health.

Chris Davis, from the National primary Head teachers Association, said that the influence of early years on a child’s long-term education is crucial:

“I always felt that the most important job in the whole school was the reception teacher. The better the experience of the child pre-five, the better value you will get from them post-five.”
